Reptile Rescue
The NCRW specialise in identifying, collecting and rehoming non-native species such as Corn Snakes, Turtles and Bearded Dragons. These are often found in warm locations such as cupboards and cars, gardens or local lakes. Some are escaped pets, some have been sadly left in public places by owners and some are found with no explanation as to how they have arrived in the UK.
Animals we have rescued
Turtles
Some turtles are now illegal to keep as pets and are may only be kept by Licenced sanctuaries such as the NCRW. We often collect Slider Turtles from public lakes, or from members of the public who have found them in ponds and lakes.
Snakes
Some snakes are masters of escaping, and will manage to sneak out of the smallest gaps making their way into neighbours properties or public places. Occasionally they will enter the country in a vehicle that has been abroad. Sadly we do also recover snakes who have been abandoned by their owners who have chosen to leave them in public places rather than take them to a rescue centre.
Lizards
We sometimes get calls regarding lizards who have escaped from owners gardens, or who have managed to escape their owners properties and have made their way to neighbours gardens. Occasionally we are called to recover lizards from shops where they have entered with shipments of plants or fruit, from customs who have found them being imported, or from holiday makers who have found them in their luggage on return from holiday.
Amphibians
Like lizards frogs will occasionally make their way into the country via fruit or plants being shipped. These are often found in shops by unpackers, or by consumers who have taken the product home and discovered the creature inside packaging. We do also get calls to rescue abandoned animals or those who have entered the country via shipping or luggage on return from another country.
